The Meiers, son Kevin and pere Ken, have combined their wine busineses into one, at Ken’s old store, Meier’s Cork ‘n Bottle, 13th and South streets.

Kevin Meier Imports and the Cork ‘n Bottle merged as of Aug. 1, Ken said.

Kevin had his business on his own for about seven years on Village Drive in south Lincoln.

Kevin recently closed his wine store and consolidated with his father who's been in business for 30 years. "It was silly to be competing with each other," said Ken. "How many dad's get a chance to work with their sons. I couldn't be happier." (MICHAEL PAULSEN/LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR)

The previous operator of the Cork ‘n Bottle backed out a year ago and Ken returned to run his old store, which he had left to design and install wine cellars, 26 of them in the last five years.

“After a year of putting this back together,  we’re in good shape,” Ken said.  “We already set a new record for any month other than a holiday month.”

The deli space is gone, a wine-tasting room has been installed and they have 5,000 square feet to operate in, 40 percent more.

Ken’s still designing, but not building, wine cellars.

“I’ve got three different. carpenters keeping busy,” Ken said. “I just don’t have the time to do the carpentry myself.  I was a one-man show.”

They both favor reds,  according to Kevin: Ken, old world and Kevin, new.
