East faces Millard South in season opener tonight
BY RYLY JANE HAMBLETON / Lincoln Journal Star
Top-ranked Millard South comes to Seacrest Field Thursday night for the season opener for Nebraska high school football.
The Patriots will meet Lincoln East at 7 p.m.
Millard South should have a high-flying attack, with Class A’s leading passer from last year, Bronson Marsh, returning. Vondrae Tostenson should be a favorite target and his athleticism will be a test for the Spartan secondary.
East will also look to the air, with a full stable of tall, fleet receivers, led by Tyson Clark and Drew Sankey. Scott Sunderman will have lots of receivers to choose from and that should also give the running game time to get going.
There are two Class B games and two Class D games on Thursday. Hastings is at Columbus and Mount Michael plays at Omaha Gross. In Class D-2, Chambers is at Stuart and Stapleton plays at Maywood.
The rest of Classes A and B play on Friday night, with a sprinkling of games in Classes C-1, C-2, D-1 and D-2.
