A former Dundy County deputy sheriff has pleaded guilty after buying beer for a 20-year-old woman.

Kristopher Rinne, 26, was off duty in November when he bought the alcohol and drank it with the 20-year-old, Attorney General Jon Bruning said. Rinne pleaded guilty to attempted procuring of alcohol for a minor.

Rinne was sentenced to 14 days in jail, one year probation, a $750 fine and 20 hours of community service.

He resigned from the Dundy County Sheriff’s Department in June.

" It's pretty sad that this was also a Dare officer that did this. As a mom of a child that graduated from the program of Dare its really a bad example of do as I say and not as I do. If however this would have been a non law enforcement person, that person would have been sitting in the state pen doing a heck of a lot more time. Is he going to loose his certifications or is he going to be one of our finest patrolling the streets? "

" How ironic is it that this guy gets 14 days in jail and 1 year probation while the guy in Lincoln who pointed a gun at his wife and shot two times just gets one year probation. Now he did claim he thought the safety was on, but I'm pretty sure after he heard the first round go off he should have know the safety was not on. Where is the justice. Clearly alcohol offenses are much more serious than attempted murder charges. "

" To unknown August 27, 2008 8:15 pm: In all my years of watching the courts I've never seen anyone get a fine AND jail time AND probation AND community service for procuring alcohol for minor, let alone a 20 year old. I am pretty convinced that he received this sentence BECAUSE he was of the law enforcement profession. Since he has resigned from the Dundy County Sheriff's Office, I doubt if he will be patrolling your streets. Additionally, you need to go back to law school...this is a misdemeanor and you aren't usually sent to prison for a misdemeanor.

Oh yeah...it wasn't in the story here but this was prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office, so someone should complain about how this was only done for publicity. (That was sarcasm folks) "

" A twenty year old is not a child but a legal adult who can do everything except buy/consume alcohol. "

" Thank goodness we got this troublemaker off the streets...buying alcohol for a twenty year old. I thought partents were the only ones who can buy for minors and have it be alright. "

" I agree with Yada, unknown doesn't know what the heck she is talking about. Prison for buying alcohol for a 20 year old woman, give me a break! This guy got a very stiff sentence and it is because he was in law enforcement. I agree it was a mistake in judgement but hardly worth the press Bruning is getting. "

Brock Landers wrote on August 28, 2008 1:27 pm:
" A prime example for justification to lower the drinking age to 18 or 19. This guy is 26 and the woman was 20 - if they were dating nobody would even bat an eye. In fact, maybe they were dating and she only turned him in to get back at him for breaking up with her. We don't know the whole story... only that the guy got a pretty raw deal for a relativly minor crime (pun intended). "

No problem here wrote on August 28, 2008 5:14 pm:
" I have absolutely ZERO problem with what this guy did. The most ridiculous thing about this case is the fact that a 20 year old drinking beer concerns the courts. Only in America is a person old enough to drive, smoke cigarettes, chew tobacco, vote, buy lottery tickets, pickle cards, play keno, go to a strip club, join the military, fight and die for his/her country while never being allowed to legally drink in the borders of their own country. If I was the judge, I would have made this speech and not given the former officer any punishment. Then I would have taken whatever administrative punishment the state tried to give me "

" If this officer had been married to the woman, would anyone even think about prosecuting him? What a waste of tax dollars. Now this guy's career is ruined because he was dating an ADULT.
That is an extremely harsh sentence for a consensual "crime" that harmed NO ONE! "

Dr Juan wrote on August 28, 2008 8:08 pm:
" I think 18 is still too young to drink publicly. I think 19 would be ok however. Why split hairs? At 18, a lot of kids are still in High School. Also, Nebraska see's a child as a minor in and THROUGH their 18th year. We pay child support on our kids till they turn 19. I did it, and I didn't have a problem with it. "

" If I am 21 and I buy beer and drink with my 20 year old wife, can I go to jail? "

my kids mom wrote on August 28, 2008 10:06 pm:
" This whole thing is not that he bought this girl some beer it's the fact he was a law officer and that he was a Dare officer at that. Even though he was off duty he still was part of the law and that is the part I have a problem with. Everyone has time from work but if he was going to do this do it a smart way. He had to know that he could have gotten caught so why take the chance? "
