OMAHA — An Omaha man who had been charged with raping a fellow student at Omaha South High School has been sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Jonathan Reyes was 18 in 2005 when he was charged with first-degree sexual assault, accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in a school stairwell after school.

On Tuesday, a Douglas County District Court judge sentenced Reyes to 180 days in jail after Reyes pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor sexual assault.

Reyes will serve less than the six months he was given. The judge gave him credit for 51 days he had already served in jail.

" How ridiculous. That's all his sentence was? "

" Wow - no wonder more people don't report sexual assault. To go through the horror of being raped, then to have relive it through the investigation, then he gets SIX MONTHS?? Our society needs to take a stand that rape will not be tolerated. Shame on the judge and shame on this young man. "

" yet again our wonderful county attorney and judges hit the ball out of the park. CONGRATULATIONS BOYS! It never ceases to amaze me the recidivism rate of this county is so high, when all we do is the equavilent of sending criminals to bed without their dinner. Kinda like someone who just shot a police officer last week. If people had done their job, Corey Allen would have never been on the street. "

" This was what this guy got - for all out rape, but the Husker football player Christiansen stands to get 50 YEARS for being drunk at a bar and reaching up under a girl's skirt?!?!?!?!? I don't get it. I'm not condoning this type of behavior, but I don't get the differences in sentences. "
