A Lancaster County corrections officer required four stitches after a jail inmate allegedly punched him in the mouth, Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said.

According to police, James Earl Jones, 27, 1955 G St., was upset that a corrections officer had not let him use the phone early Wednesday. Later, at 9:45 a.m., Jones allegedly walked by the officer, turned around and punched him once in the face, Beggs said.

The officer’s injury required two stitches on the outside and two stitches on the inside of his mouth.

Jones remains in custody, cited on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer. He was originally jailed Tuesday on suspicion of disturbing the peace.
