CHADRON — A campus-wide lockdown triggered last fall by five armed robbery suspects has led Chadron State College to approve the presence of a police officer on campus.

A member of the Chadron Police Department will begin patrolling the campus 40 hours a week — primarily from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. — starting with the beginning of classes Monday.

The college will pay for the officer 11 months of the year.

Campus vice president Randy Rhine says the resource officer position will be filled from within the existing police force. Rhine says interviews have already begun with interested officers.

" Forced to cruise the campus when you are most likely to find drunk wild college girls?! Where do I send my resume, I'll do it for half the $! "

" The likelihood of finding armed robbers on campus again is extremely low, especially during those hours. "Sign me up" is right - this is to harass the college kids who are drinking. I'll do it for free. Probably won't arrest anyone, but will pick up lots of free beer and pot. "

" shouldn't a patrol of campus be included in a regular shift for Chadron police officers? "
