An Oklahoma man was sentenced to prison Thursday for stealing from the Links while he worked there.

Jerry M. Miller Jr., 29, of Stilwell, Okla., had prior burglary convictions, but his attorney asked Lancaster County District Court Judge Jodi Nelson to give him probation.

Police said he stole a green motorized cart worth $7,400 from a storage building by the complex’s office and a diamond wedding ring from an apartment.

Kevin Oursland said client was given access to the items by other employees at the apartment complex in northwest Lincoln. Miller has taken responsibility for his actions, the stolen items were returned and he was making positive strides, Oursland said.

“There’s no excuse for what I done, ‘cept stupidity and greed,” Miller said.

Nelson said it looked as if Miller spent an awful lot of his time at the Links either stealing or figuring out what he was going to steal next.

“You know better, but you chose to be a thief,” she said, sentencing him to two to four years in prison.
