A 66-year-old Lincoln man was sentenced to prison Wednesday for sexually assaulting his granddaughter. The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the girl’s identity, was convicted of incest.

According to court records, the man subjected the pre-teen to sexual penetration. She told investigators last August the sexual contact occurred on several occasions, and he sometimes called her a prude when she asked him to stop, according to court records.

At his sentencing Wednesday, Lancaster County District Court Judge Jodi Nelson told him that, while he didn’t have any criminal record, he had taken advantage of a position of trust.

“Quite frankly, this is an offense that’s absolutely horrible,” she said.

Nelson gave him to two to five years in prison, ordered him to register as a sex offender and said he would be subject to lifetime community supervision when he gets out.

" It's unacceptable to me that these pedophiles get so few years in prison for causing a lifetime of grief for their victims. I don't care if they are a father, grandfather, uncle, brother, stepfather, etc. they deserve to spend years and years in prison. I know so very many woman who were molested and/or raped in their youth and whether it was once or over and over again, they're lives were dramatically impacted in so many ways. Yeah, therapy can help, but it can't reverse the damage that's been done physically and emotionally. "

" I just dont understand how a person can take a childs innocence way like that and then just get a slap on the hand. They are killing that child emotionally. It just saddens me that there are people that do this in the first place. "

" They need to keep guys like this behind bars forever, we have seen time and time again that these people cannot be rehabilitated and will commit the same crime time and time again. "

" I've seen longer sentences for people caught with a pound of marijuana.

These lenient sentences need to stop. I don't care how rough prison is for a pedophile...nothing compares to the pain the victim has to live with...in this case a victim who literally has her whole life ahead of her. "

" Another case, another repeat of the truth that the perpetrator gets only a few years, and the victim gets a lifetime of part or all of the following: dealing with the fact her childhood was stolen, feeling 'less than,' thousands of dollars of counseling, low self-esteem, inability to enjoy sex with a man, inability to function at all because of the childhood trauma, self-defeating behaviors, self-physical injury, and hard to imagine, even worse, all the way to suicide attempts. "

" This is ridiculous!!! I was molested as a young girl & you NEVER get away from it! I will spend a life's sentence with it! What happened to the 'man' who did it? NOTHING! Absolutely nothing & he was my uncle..... When I was in school, there were very few girls that hadn't been molested or raped by someone - their fathers, uncles, father's of friends, etc. When are they going to crack down on these predators? "

" Thanks to the ACLU this is about all they can sentance him to... any more and he will get off claiming it was cruel and unusual punishment. "

" Uh, sounds like he did get a life sentence: "ordered him to register as a sex offender and said he would be subject to lifetime community supervision when he gets out." Last I heard registered offenders have their lives monitored and controlled for the rest of their lives while living like pariahs because everyone around them will know who they are and what they have done.
I'm not saying his jail time was adequate (I agree with the masses when they say he should have a lot more), but his life is now ruined as well. "

" To "Life sentence" yes..his life will be ruined....KICK BUTT!!! The fact that our laws don't do more to put these guys away for as long as most drug dealers is really sad. Poor guy! His life will be constantly watched by neighbors, police, and the government! Wow..whatever will he do??
As far as I'm concerned...since they aren't going to make him do the time he should, then I hope and pray to god that his life is as miserable as he has made this childs. "

" I have a few things to say. As a child, by my father, I was abused. Did it change the course of my life? Yes, however I do not "suffer" nor is my life "ruined". Granted some people do have a more difficult time to work through this grief in life, and it depends on their will and those around them. I wasn't killed emotionally, I don't feel "less-than", or any of the other remarks made. Unfortunately this type of abuse is rampant on my paternal side of the family, which is why I removed myself from them. Yes it is a big impact, but really though, my life was not ruined, I just cringe when I hear that. I have a positive outlook and life and look forward to living until I'm 100+. One more thing, I must applaude LJS for not handing out the grandfathers name in order to protect this young lady. "

" How horrific!

But lifetime community supervision??? What the heck is that? We all have to watch out for him???..and be sure our children are far away??...good one!

If he needs life time supervision...he needs a PRISON life sentence! "
