Behlen provides Olympic steel in China
By The Lincoln Journal Star
Behlen China, the Chinese division of Behlen Manufacturing Co., in Columbus, supplied several hundred tons of structural primary steel for the Olympic basketball arena in Beijing and also all the primary and secondary steel for a five-story office building, in front of the basketball arena, said Jon Heibel, marketing team leader of Behlen’s building group.
Structural primary steel provides support for the building structure. Secondary steel pieces are used to attach materials and sheeting to the building structure. Behlen provided structural primary steel for both buildings and secondary steel for the administrative building.
The original intent of the administrative building was for referees and administrators for the basketball events. The building's purpose was later changed, Heibel said.
Behlen China has a manufacturing plant in Northwest Beijing, in the Haiden District, on the fifth ring of the city. There are currently six rings of growth from the center of Beijing.
A new Behlen manufacturing plant will be 15 miles south of the center of Beijing. Behlen China manufactures building products for domestic use in China.
