Biblical solutions

to family issues offered

New Growth Press has released a series of 21 Scripture-based booklets to help pastors, counselors and “everyday Christians” support people struggling with problems of abuse, addiction and other personal issues often kept secret.

The booklets, written by the faculty of Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF), are divided  into three categories: Parenting Resources, Marriage and Family Resources, and Resources for Personal Change.

“Basically, we write candidly about the issues that most people don't want to talk about,” said   Karen Teears, company president. "Like everything we publish with CCEF, these booklets are very Gospel-centered and dense with Scripture.”

Democrats’ language on abortion praised

A group of Catholic and evangelical leaders hailed new language for the Democratic Party’s platform that calls for reducing abortion as a way to create common ground with many traditional Republican voters.

The Rev. Joel Hunter, pastor of Longwood, Fla.-based Northland, A Church Distributed, was among those praising the new wording, to be presented for approval at the Democratic convention in Denver later this month.

“From my perspective as a conservative evangelical, Barack Obama’s campaign and the Democratic Party have taken a historic and courageous step toward empowering women for an expanded range of choices and saving babies’ lives,” said Hunter, former president of the Christian Coalition, a national conservative advocacy group.
