Attorney General Jon Bruning has scheduled a news conference to give an update on his investigation into Nebraska gas stations trying to cheat customers.
Bruning will be joined Tuesday afternoon by Steve Malone. He's administrator of the Division of Weights and Measures.
Bruning said in May that he plans to prosecute station owners who deceive the public.
Malone said the most common trick is for stations to put ethanol blends in pumps labeled as regular, 100 percent gasoline. That way the stations can charge the extra 5 to 10 cents regular gas sells for compared to the common blend of 10 percent alcohol, 90 percent gas.

If my memeory serves correctly this has been going on for a couple of years now with Jon's office either issuing letters that what was being done isn't illegal. It is either legal or illegal Jon - you can't have it both ways (though you can throw interns under the bus to try to cover for you).
Either way Jon has taken a heck of a long time in doing anything about the stations in North Platte or anywhere else. I guess it has now become a political issue after prices skyrocketed over the last 6 months so therefore Jon has to drum up some dog and pony show to try and score votes by claiming that he is now 'tough' on gas station owners.
My prediction: these cases will implode the same way so many other cases have during Jon's tenure in office. Jon has suffered a couple of particularly humiliating defeats in serious felony cases in Lincoln and Dawes County within the last few months. Lets hope that his office can finally show a little trial competence and less political showmanship for a change. "
