Changes coming for 102.7 The Breeze

As of Monday, The Breeze on 102.7 FM will be simultaneously broadcast on  KRKR 95.1 FM.

And soon KRKR will take sole possession of the program.

Here’s why:

Spirit Catholic Radio KVSS, based in Omaha, recently signed an agreement to purchase 102.7, currently broadcasting from Lincoln as The Breeze. KVSS will pay $4.5 million to buy the signal from Chapin Enterprises of Lincoln.

Because of the upcoming move, Chapin Enterprises is making an early adjustment.

“With 102.7 going to Omaha, we decided to put that music on KRKR 95.1, starting today,” said Richard Chapin of Chapin Enterprises on Monday.

But 102.7 can’t officially move until the Federal Communications Commission finishes reviewing the applications for the change.

“As of this morning, (the FCC said) it could be as soon as two to three weeks,” Chapin said. “But knowing the FCC and the legal licensing  bureaus  like that, you can never say for sure.”

The FCC has to provide a grant before any final changes can be made.

Until then, The Breeze 102.7 in Lincoln will broadcast its current adult contemporary format .

And as of Monday, so will KRKR.

“So currently two stations are programming the same music,” Chapin said.  “But (102.7) will be different (eventually).”

" Talk about drastic changes over the last couple of years - it wasn't long ago 102.7 was teenie-bopper radio. Now, it is going religious. Wow. "

" I was furious when I tuned in to listen to Dennis Miller Monday! The ONLY reason I listed to 95.1 is for their talk radio programs. They've lost a listener. "

" When I moved to Lincoln over 10 years ago, the radio here was AMAZING! Now, the only half way decent station still around is 104.1, and that was demoted from 106.3.

What a shame. "

" So the talk format of 95.1 is gone? That stinks, I love listening to Mike McConnell on "the weekend." "

" I'm glad the talk radio on FM format bombed. I never understood why they took a decent station and replaced it with the same blather you can hear on AM. Hearing some blowhard opine in FM Stereo doesn't make it any more enjoyable than listening on AM. "

" The talk radio was just a place holder becasue three eagles only wanted 1 clasic rock 92.9. Even though Chapin owned 102.7 and 95.1 3 eagles was still programing them. Sorry it didnt bomb but 101.9 might. "

" B107.3 has to be on the edge of a format flip because they are now owned by NRG MEDIA the same people who program Star 104.5 as an 80's staion and Q98.5 as a hit/ac station in omaha. Q98.5 is still not a CHR like KFRX or 94.1 but it gets high ratings like the CHR and Rythmic staions. "

" At first 102.7 was a classical station. They gave all their music to Union College for them to start KUCV. Then it became KFMQ, Lincoln's Rock station. Lately it became just another Top 40 pop station. Sorry to see their downfall. "

John wrote on August 19, 2008 11:18 pm:
" I hate the way stations change formats all the time. KFMQ used to be by far the best station in Lincoln. Was classic rock before there was classic rock. Any time a station's ratings drop it has to change formats. Will the station now play religious music? Get enough of that on Sundays. Glad there is digital radio to be able to listen to some good music. "

Barry wrote on August 19, 2008 11:39 pm:
" KFMQ was 101.9, right? "

You confused wrote on August 19, 2008 11:49 pm:
" Just for the record (pun intended) KFMQ was on 101.9, and KFRX used to be KFOR-FM on 102.7 with a Beautiful Music format until it changed to KFRX in the Fall of 78. Ok? So now when you wax nostalgia about how you hate this station or why that station was so great, you'll at least have the right one. "

TornadoKnight wrote on August 21, 2008 1:15 pm:
" I'm bummed that we lost the Dennis Miller & Mike O'Meara shows. They were a fun & different kind of talk radio that you don't hear locally at all otherwise. I hope that Three Eagles will get their act together and put them back on the air here on some other station. There are already too many cheezy "soft music" stations that play crappy 50's,60's & 70's junk! Hwarff!!!! It's the year 2008. Live in the now!! "

Rob C wrote on August 21, 2008 9:26 pm:
" What a lame new format! FM talk was a great idea and Dennis Miller is an enjoyable example of talk radio for everyone. I hope the new format bombs - I will not be listening. "

chas wrote on August 30, 2008 5:52 pm:
" I said to my co-workers when 95 rock went to 95 talk, that it wouldn't last. Was I right. You can hear that on AM radio or the net. Radio has had big changes everywhere in the last 10 to 15 years. How it can stay on at all,I have no idea. XM radio & net radio are kicking FM radio's butt. The problem lies in internet radio. You can hear what you want in any format. "

" Just for the record for an earlier comment Q 98.5 is owned by NRG Media, but Star 104.5 is owned by Journal Broadcast Group. "
