Police say a 53-year-old Lincoln man shot and killed his neighbors’ cat Thursday evening.

Two people living on the 400 block of Blue Flame Road heard something hit the side of their trailer between 7 and 8 p.m., said Officer Katie Flood.

When they went outside later, they saw a pool of blood and followed it under the trailer, where they found their cat, covered in blood, Flood said.

They took their cat to an emergency veterinary clinic, but it did not survive, Flood said. The vet said the cat’s injuries were consistent with a gunshot wound, possible from a .22-caliber bullet, Flood said.

Another neighbor told police he had seen Daniel Roach fire a gun and run around the time of the incident, Flood said.

Roach was cited and released on suspicion of discharging a weapon in the city and cruelty to animals, Flood said.
