Former Ord CEO’s bias claims going to court
By The Associated Press
ORD — A federal court in Omaha is set to hear a lawsuit involving a former Ord hospital executive’s claims of discrimination and breach of contract.
Neelam Bhardwaj is seeking $213,000 in severance pay and benefits plus lost income and other costs from the Valley County Health System.
Bhardwaj was fired as the hospital’s CEO in March 2006.
The hospital’s board of trustees said it fired Bhardwaj because of a tax payment dispute and because she misled the board about the severity of a state review of the hospital’s nursing home.
Bhardwaj, who is Indian-American, says she was fired because of her race and gender and out of retaliation for disciplining the chief financial officer, Larry Schrage. He has replaced her as CEO.
