FREMONT — Fremont city leaders have set some rules of conduct for an upcoming discussion of an illegal-immigration issue.

The Fremont City Council is weighing a proposal that would ban renting to illegal immigrants and could as well outlaw hiring of them.

Fremont City Clerk Kim Volk says the council has approved rules that will limit speakers at the Tuesday meeting to three minutes. Applause, booing, profanity and raised voices will be barred.

The meeting will be held at the Fremont High School auditorium, which can fit 1,250 people, instead of the far smaller council chambers.

" This is already a law. Kudos to Fremont for taking the initiative to enforce it!! "

" I hope all opinions will be respected. If not, there will never be resolution to their issue. They in Fremont are fast becoming reputationally challenged and I hope they do not continue to be too dumb and to blind to see it. They don't need another debacle! "

" I would suggest everyone go to www.fremontneb.com and open up the article
"Special place, rules for meetings." And you will think these rules are being set for a pre-school class. Get this:
(1) You can address the Fremont City Council...but you can NOT ask
them any questions.
(2) You can make a remark but you are limited to 3 minutes.
(3) You are NOT allowed to address the City Council more than 1 time.
(4) Profanity or raised voices will not be permit.
(5) Applause, booing or other indications of support or displeasure
with a speaker is not allowed.
(6) City Council members may not speak directly to the audience, but
may question a speaker with the approval of the Mayor.

Okay, kiddies....sit down be quiet, be good kids while we RAM OUR OPPINION DOWN YOUR THROATS...but, remember...don't respond in any way!!

Is this really the way our founding fathers intended our democratic form of government to work??? I don't think so..............

And, yes....I am from Fremont, and I agree with the no profanity and no yelling, but....I don't appreciate being treated like a pre-schooler!!

It is a very very unfortunate situation.....and I would like to mention that I am not talking about the issue that is being considered, I am talking about the manner in which the meeting is be handled. It is going to be a long long time before 95% of Fremont is being treated by 5% of Fremont......and personally, I don't think 'most' of our city officials really care....we need a turn over in city officials, and I am sure the up coming elections will take care of that issue. This is definitely not a democratic form of government at work!! "

" City of Fremont: Please don't refer to illegal aliens as "illegal immigrants". If you are in the country illegally, you are an "alien", therefore the term should be "illegal alien" or simply "alien". People who immigrate do so legally. I, like many others, am tired of government and media calling them something else to make their crime not sound as bad as it is. Would you rent your house to someone who is running from the law? Would you give them a job?
If you want to move to our country:
1. Do it legally
2. Learn English
3. Be productive
4. Stop telling me how much better your former country was that America. "

" I applaud Fremont at doing the Federal Government's job.

It seems that anyone who supports any kind of limit on "ILLEGAL" immigrants is immediatley called a racist. Why is this?

If an illegal immigrant gets caught in Mexico they are THROWN IN JAIL!!! often for years! Seems like a double standard...

I'm all for work visa's or documented worker programs -- but remember people, if they are here ILLEGALLY, they are BREAKING THE LAW! "

" If the City of Fremont has the right to enforce federal immigration laws then it also has the right to print its own money, raise its own army and establish diplomatic relations with foreign nations. This is complete idiocy. Imagine if every municipality in the US established its own immigration law. Complete chaos--more so than we have now. It's only up to the federal govt to set immigration policy and laws, but because of their inaction you have folks like Bob Warner whipping up racist sentiment and playing on white people's fears of being overrun by brown people. As for the rules of the July 29th meeting, were any of you at the July 8th meeting when this proposed ordinance was first discussed? If yes, then you would realize why these rules are needed. After attending that meeting I thought to myself, "This is precisely how the Nazis came to power." And that is no exaggeration. Anyone who says it's not about race, should have been at that meeting too. Also, check out the members of the boards of national anti-immigrant groups and compare the names to the boards of white supremacist groups. You will see a pattern. "
