Nebraska gets more than $2.6 million in disaster aid

More than $2.6 million in disaster aid has now been approved for Nebraska individuals and business owners who sustained damage during the storms, tornadoes and flooding that hammered the state from May 22 to June 24.
The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency said to date, more than 2,000 people have registered for disaster aid.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has allocated more than $1.4 million of the approved amount in the form of low-interest home and business loans.
Here is a breakdown of disaster recovery activity as of Sunday:
* Total funds approved —$2.689,000;
* Housing assistance to homeowners and renters — $1,035,000;
* Approved for other needs — $165,299;
* SBA approved loans to repair or replace damaged homes and businesses — $1,488,300;
* Inspections completed —1,350 (of 1,425 damaged properties reported).
“We continue to encourage Nebraskans who suffered the effects of the storms, tornadoes and flooding to call FEMA’s teleregistration line and find out if they are eligible for disaster assistance.” said FEMA federal coordinating officer Willie Nunn. “Less than four weeks are left to apply.”

Anyone who had storm or tornado damage, or lost a job due to the weather, during the May 22 to June 24 and who lives, works, or owns a business in the declared counties of Buffalo, Butler, Colfax, Custer, Dawson, Douglas, Gage, Hamilton, Jefferson, Kearney, Lancaster, Platte, Richardson, Sarpy and Saunders can call or register online at www.fema.gov/assistance.
