A four-year-old girl was in fair condition Monday morning after being pulled out of an apartment swimming pool Sunday afternoon.

The girl was sitting with a group of children near the edge of the pool at 640 S. 20th St. at 3:24 p.m. when another child took the flotation device she had been using, said Lincoln Police Sgt. Don Scheinost.

The girl, who can’t swim, jumped into the water without the device, Scheinost said. She was face down, underwater when she was pulled from the pool.

Someone gave her chest compressions, Scheinost said. Water came out of her mouth and she vomited. When rescue workers arrived, the girl was lying on the cement with her eyes opened, breathing, Scheinost said.

She was taken to BryanLGH Medical Center West for precautionary measures.

The apartment building is owned by MBA Apartments LLC, according to the Lancaster County Assessor’s Office.

" Great job to whoever pulled this girl out and or gave her CPR. Sounds like you saved a life. We all wonder if we could do it but you did! Awesome work. "

" I am so happy that the girl didn't drown. Apartment pools are very dangerous without a lifeguard around. It is very important for all kids even that age to take swimming lessons. My little 4 year old is in them now. I feel that all kids need to know what to do in case this would ever happen to them or someone around them. Glad this is a happy ending!! "

" This just shows the importance of knowing CPR. Everyone should take a course. Does your babysitter know CPR. Something to think about. "

" I am going to school to be an EMT, and ironically, the chapter we are studing right now is water rescue. I am so glad that this little girl's life was saved, and it goes to show that CPR can and will save lives! I think everyone should be certified for CPR. The earlier CPR is performed when a person goes into cardiac arrest, the better the chances are he/she will survive. God bless this little girl, and God bless her family! "
