OMAHA — Omaha Public Power District is warning its customers about crooks who are trying to use OPPD for an information scam.

The district says some OPPD customers have gotten calls from people who say they are OPPD workers. The callers ask for credit card information, Social Security numbers and other financial or personal information.

The callers often threaten customers with cutting off their service unless they reveal the information or pay them in cash.

OPPD says its staffers don’t make such calls.

The utility says people shouldn’t give personal or financial information to strangers making unsolicited telephones. And OPPD says it wants customers to call if there are questions about the true identity of someone claiming to work for OPPD.
