OMAHA — Democratic challenger Max Yashirin is trailing by thousands of dollars in fundraising in the 1st District race against incumbent Republican Jeff Fortenberry.

Yashirin has raised nearly $12,000 for his campaign. The 25-year-old former Marine is running his first campaign against Fortenberry, who’s seeking a third term.

Yashirin was required to file his first report with the Federal Election Commission Tuesday.

" Where is Fortenberry's contributions coming from? 1st district or special interests? Does anyone know? "

" Incumbents always raise more money than challengers with little political or public policy history. What this tells me is that the big Democrat fund-raiser money is being instead allocated to the Senate race and Kleeb, and the party is basically expecting Yashirin to lose by a landslide. I know I have only so much money to donate to campaigns, so I put it into races that my candidate actually has a realistic hope of winning. "

" Wouldn’t it be great if the families of veterans and veterans would support this man who is dedicated to change Washington’s historical blunders in Iraq? I went to the website and noticed allot of out of state contributions. Must be special interests. While I don’t have much money to contribute, change for change can make a difference for the challenger. Every little bit helps and the average citizens are the ones who will make a difference just by voting. "

" $12,000 is actually $12,000 more than I expected him to have. He's not going to be able to buy the race by any means, but considering he was a late entry to the race and doesn't have the backing of any of Nebraska's big-money people, that is pretty good. That is a lot of five dollar checks. I will be writing my check tomorrow. "
