Former Nebraska basketball player Aleks Maric is joining the Portland Trail Blazers’ summer league team.

Agent Andrew Vye said Maric, a 6-foot-11 center, will fly to Portland on Friday and join the team’s organizational workouts. The team begins its summer league schedule in Las Vegas on Monday.

Maric, an undrafted free agent, on Thursday played his fourth and final game with the Indiana Pacers’ summer league team in Orlando. Making his first start, he scored four points, grabbed five rebounds and had an assist in 17 minutes.

Maric makes first start

Aleks Maric made his first start in the Orlando Pro Summer League on Thursday.

Maric played 17 minutes and was 2-for-3 from the floor. Besides scoring four points, he grabbed five rebounds and had an assist. Maric’s team, the Indiana Pacers, lost to the Orlando Magic 82-80.

He’s missing today’s final game to travel to Portland.

Vye said Maric isn’t considered a free against prospect for Portland.

“It’s not a makeable situation for him in October, but it’s a very good situation for playing time now,” Vye said. “It’s more about exposure than the team he’s with. We’re trying to expose him to all other teams.”

In his four games with Indiana, Maric averaged 3.25 points, 3.75 rebounds and nearly 15 minutes per game.
