Woodhead, Ex-Husker Jackson headline Nebraska Football Hall of Fame
By The Lincoln Journal Star
Sheldon Jackson, who played on Nebraska teams that won 45 games over four seasons and won national titles in 1995 and 1997, headlines a group of seven former Huskers selected for induction into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
Award ceremonies are set for the weekend of Sept. 13, when the Huskers take on New Mexico State at Memorial Stadium.
The induction class will include defensive tackle Bob Liggett and center Kelly Petersen from the 1960s, split end Tim Smith from the 1970s and I-back Ken Clark and defensive end Tony Felici from the 1980s.
Lon Stiner, an All-America tackle at Nebraska in 1926, was awarded Hall of Fame membership by a vote of the Veterans’ Division.
Three state college stars, including Chadron State All-American Danny Woodhead, will also be inducted.
Woodhead gained automatic induction into the Hall of Fame by winning the NCAA Division II Harlan Hill Trophy.
Others selected for induction include former Nebraska Wesleyan and Lincoln Southeast star Brian Bohling and Chris Pohl, a defensive tackle who led a resurgence at Hastings College in the early 1990s.
The Nebraska Chapter of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame will also honor Bill Cook Jr. and wife Betty of Beatrice as the Clarence E. Swanson Meritorious Service Award recipients.
Dan Young, NU’s longtime offensive line and kickers coach, will receive the Lyell Bremser Special Merit Award.
