Four children were arrested early Sunday after a 38-year-old woman caught them stealing from her and held them at gunpoint with a B.B. gun.

The woman told police she found the 14 year old and three 12 year olds taking her belongings from a garage on the 200 block of C Street. She confronted them with a B.B. gun, demanding they return her belongings, Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said.

The children brought back $595 worth of electronics and camping equipment they allegedly stole Saturday, as well as $1,670 in electronics and other items from a burglary reported Thursday at the same address.

No one was injured, and the children’s cases were referred to the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office, Beggs said.

" The punks will likely not do even one day in jail for this. "

" I'm surprised the woman wasn't arrested for unlawful confinement. A rancher did that to some illegals in Benson AZ and he lost his ranch..this is not a urban tale but something that really happened(see Arizona news). So young(38) lady be counting your blessings in this upside down world we live in that someone so far has not arrested you for your act, of course civil action against you maybe coming soon. FYI I hope these punks get time in Kearne5r but they won't, 6 months probation since they returned all of her items. "

" Yeah, everyone knows that jails are full of 14 and 12 year olds. "

" Good for you for standing up for yourself! I don't think this lady should have any charges or civil suit against her, that would be ridiculous. She was protecting her property. "

" She held them at gunpoint with a BB gun? What a goofy story...the fact that she thought they'd stay put for a BB gun is amazing, but they DID?!?!? It's a BB gun... "

" I agree with Lisa, Good for her....if I caught someone stealing from me like that I'd protect my property as well. I don't see what would justify a civil action regarding this...I just hope there is some sort of punishment for these kids....like some serious community service and probation...unless of course this is not their first tangle with the law, then more serious punishment would be warranted. "

" A few weeks of detassling corn in the 90 degree heat with 80% humidity will set these children on the straight and narrow. Oh, wait, they'll end up in juvenile hall learning how to hot-wire cars, roll joints, and make meth from the other delinquents. Never mind. "

" I hope this lady doesn't get into trouble. If she didn't handle this right, I would like to know just what a person is supposed to do in situations like this. She was able to get her property back, and it sounds like no one was injured physically in the process. In turn the boys have to take responsibility for their actions. I think she handled it well. "

" Scott, not all BB guns look like what you buy from wal-mart. I own some Airsoft weapons that look and pretty much disassemble down like the ones I used in the Army. In any case, when someone points a weapon at you, do you want to guess wrong? "

Dano wrote on July 7, 2008 10:59 am:
" Time to work them straight. I think the detassling idea would be a good one. Or maybe mowing some of the porperties that have weed isues for a couple of months. "

" Why should she face charges? Afterall, just recently a man in Texas who shot in the back and killed 2 intruders on his neighbor's property was cleared of all charges. At least she held them with a BB Gun and it was her own stuff. "

Peggy wrote on July 7, 2008 3:39 pm:
" I agree with the comment about making them work it off-- Something to the tune of the $ amount the items were worth. They ought to be thankful that lady didn't shoot them with a real gun. Many kids that age LOOK to be adults. Mow vacent lots, pick up trash--Kudos to the lady for standing up for the right thing to do. "

JoBeth wrote on July 7, 2008 4:41 pm:
" Why not hae them mow the parks that we can no longer afford to have City employees mow? "

Nina wrote on July 7, 2008 5:19 pm:
" Dano has the answer. This is the same plan of action I've always recommended - chopping weeds in the hot sun will truly be a lesson they'll remember. We think alike, except I usually recommend cleaning hog houses. Save the city of Lincoln some maintenance money, and convince some kids to shape up - some retired volunteer might even sit in the shade to oversee this accomplishment, so city staff is not needed. "

Cassie wrote on July 7, 2008 6:04 pm:
" Hey Red... don't assume that they were boys, the article never said they were boys or girls... Girls are doing things like this now-a-days too. "

Dano Jobeth wrote on July 7, 2008 9:59 pm:
" I for one would volunteer a few nights to supervise while these fine young people practice their mowing skills out in the city parks. (Specifically the ones that we play softball at!) I would bet that there are a few others that would probably volunteer as well. What ever happened to community service?? "

OK wrote on July 8, 2008 11:55 am:
" EXACTLY Cassie! There was never any mention of boys or girls.TRUST me girls are just as capible of doing this. Parents are to busy with life to worry about kids that is why they cause trouble. Maybe NOW they will get some attention from their parents. We were all young once and did crazy things. "

" What she did is false imprisonment pure and simple. Another case of local law doing what they want rather than following the law. Like our AG. "

" what she did is protect her property. she was perfectly legal in shooting the criminals-can we please not call them kids-in order to protect house home and property. take your bleeding heart elsewhere. "
