Lincoln couldn’t take advantage of numerous scoring opportunities, losing to St. Paul 9-6 on Saturday in American Association action in St. Paul, Minn.

The Saltdogs left the bases loaded in the first inning. In the fourth, Lincoln had the bases loaded again with one out, but hit into a inning-ending double play. Lincoln left nine runners on base, eight   in the first four innings.

St. Paul’s bullpen dominated the Dogs. Relievers John Wesley and Craig Molldrem held Lincoln without a hit over four innings, and the Saints’ offense took advantage.

Brent Krause hit an RBI single in the sixth inning. That was followed by a two-run triple by Josh Womack, which gave the Saints a 6-4 lead.

Lincoln scored four runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a  lead-off homer by Skip Adams — his first of the season. Three batters later, designated hitter Mario Delgado added a two-run double to give Lincoln a 3-0 lead.

Adams went to work again in the second inning. He stole third base, and then scored after a throw to second got away.

Delgado added a two-run homer in the ninth, and finished 2-for-3 with a game-high four RBIs. He also had two walks.
