Former director of foundation charged with theft
By The Associated Press
KEARNEY — The former director of the Kearney Public Schools Foundation has been charged with stealing more than $500,000 from the nonprofit group she led until resigning in May.
Thirty-six-year-old Angela Regenos has been charged with felony theft.
Buffalo County Attorney Shawn Eatherton says investigators believe Regenos also stole substantial amounts of money before July 2005, but the statute of limitations prevents charging her for that.
Regenos could be sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison if she is convicted.
The foundation’s Web site says it was founded in 1984 to manage scholarship, memorial and several other funds that benefit from its fundraising efforts. It estimates handling $250,000 to $300,000 a year.
