Jonas begins Olympic quest
Former Husker high jumper Dusty Jonas began his quest for an Olympic berth, advancing through the preliminaries Thursday at the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore.
Jonas, who has the best high jump in the world this year at 7 feet, 8¾ inches, cleared the opening height, then 7-2½ to move into Saturday’s finals.
Another former Husker, Melissa Price Myerscough, was the 12th and final qualifier in the women’s hammer throw. She recorded a toss of 212-3.
Former NU standout Anne Shadle failed to advance to the finals of the womens’ 1,500-meter run, recording the 24th-fastest time (4 minutes, 20.34 seconds) in Thursday’s preliminaries.
In the women’s 3,000 steeplechase, Amanda Lorenzen was seventh in 9:49.74 and Ann Gaffigan 10th in 9:54.93.
