A Lancaster County District Court jury convicted Jerry W. Idles of Lincoln on Thursday in the first-degree sexual assault of another man in 2006.

The jury got the case about 10 a.m. Thursday and returned the verdict that afternoon.

Idles, 42, was accused of sexually assaulting a then-32-year-old Lincoln man at the man’s residence in April 2006. The man told police he fell asleep in his bed after drinking a beer and swallowing a Valium pill Idles had given him.

He said he awoke the next morning to Idles lying next to him. The man said his body felt strange and he went to BryanLGH Medical Center West later that day for a sexual assault examination.

According to a police report, state crime lab testing on substances gleaned from the examination found DNA matching that of Idles.

Idles denied assaulting the man. His attorney, Kirk Naylor of Lincoln, said in closing arguments Thursday morning that there was no conclusive evidence that Idles had sexually penetrated the man.
