Aki Awou, 17, pleaded no contest Thursday to two counts of robbery in connection with his role in a string of street robberies in Lincoln on Nov. 19.

Lancaster County District Judge Steven Burns accepted the plea and scheduled Awou, of Omaha, for sentencing Aug. 7. The robbery charges include maximum penalties of 50 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Awou and four other youths were involved in three armed robberies in or near the Near South Neighborhood late the morning of Nov. 19.

Awou had been charged with three counts each of robbery and use of a weapon to commit a felony and one count of theft by receiving stolen property. In a plea deal concluded Thursday, Awou pleaded no contest to two of the robbery charges in exchange for dismissal of the remaining counts.
