Sex assault trial expected to end Thursday
The jury trial of a 42-year-old Lincoln man accused of sexually assaulting another man in 2006 is expected to conclude Thursday in Lancaster County District Court.
Authorities ticketed Jerry W. Idles April 9, 2006, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a then-32-year-old man at the man’s home.
According to police reports, the man had been drinking at another friend’s home and got too intoxicated to drive home. He telephoned Idles, who picked him up and drove him home, where the man drank a beer and took a Valium given to him by Idles, according to the reports.
He then went to bed and told police he awoke the next morning with his pants down and Idles lying next to him, according to the reports.
Police records indicate the man went to BryanLGH Medical Center West later that morning for an examination. State crime lab testing on substances gleaned from the examination found DNA matching that of Idles, according to the reports.
Idles, contacted by police later that day, denied having sexual contact with the man, but prosecutors charged him with first-degree sexual assault, a felony punishable by as many as 50 years in prison.
The trial began Tuesday before Judge Robert Otte.
