Authorities: Teens posted incriminating video on YouTube
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Two Lincoln teenagers allegedly posted a video on YouTube of themselves speeding around in a Ford Explorer decked out with flashing lights and blaring sirens.
Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bill Jarrett said about two weeks ago he got an e-mail from administrators of a watchdog Web site informing him someone had posted the video.
Sure enough, Jarrett said, the video, which has since been taken down, recorded the pair’s exploits as they allegedly sped around the area of 14th Street and Alvo Road and blew through several stops signs, Code 3 — that’s police talk for lights and sirens blaring.
The sheriff’s office was able to enhance the video and get a license plate number of the Ford Explorer, as well as some good pictures of the suspects, Jarrett said.
The SUV was registered to Quentin R. King, 6007 N. 14th St., who turns 19 on Friday. King and a 17-year-old Lincoln boy were cited Saturday on suspicion of having a flashing light violation — a Class III misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of three months in jail, a $500 fine or both, Jarrett said.
The 17-year-old also was cited on suspicion of a stop sign violation and willful reckless driving, Jarrett said.
In addition to the footage taken inside the SUV during the joy ride, the video also allegedly showed the teens installing the lights and sirens, Jarrett said.
The video apparently had quite a few hits before it was taken down, Jarrett said, but he could not say exactly how many. It was posted in mid-March, he said.
