Networks pass on first 3 Husker games
BY BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star
It’ll be pay-per-view or no TV at all for Nebraska’s first three football games this fall.
Home games against Western Michigan, San Jose State and New Mexico State have not been chosen as part of the Big 12 television package.
Kickoff times for those games haven’t been set and it is undetermined whether any of them will be available on a pay-per-view basis.

The last time at least one of Nebraska’s first three games was not televised by a network was during the 1989 season.
It was made known last month that ABC/ESPN had not selected any of Nebraska’s first three games to broadcast. That was hardly a shock, considering NU’s 5-7 record last season and the trio of teams coming into Lincoln to take on first-year head coach Bo Pelini’s team.
Since then, Fox Sports Net and Versus cable channels also passed on showing Nebraska those first three weeks, favoring games featuring other Big 12 teams instead.
Fox Sports Net chose the following Big 12 games:
* Oklahoma State vs. Washington State (in Seattle), 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.
* Louisiana Tech at Kansas, 6 p.m. on Sept. 6.
* Washington State at Baylor, 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 13.
And Versus chose to televise Texas A&M’s Sept. 6 game at New Mexico.
NU currently has one game officially set to be televised, its regular-season finale against Colorado on Nov. 28. That Friday game will be at 2:30 p.m. and nationally televised by ABC.
The Nebraska-Virginia Tech game is also going to be on TV, though it is not yet determined which network will broadcast it or when kickoff will be.
Other games on Nebraska’s schedule — among them Missouri, Texas Tech, Kansas, Oklahoma — stand good chances of being televised. But the status of those games might not be known until a week or two before each contest. The networks generally choose additional games they want to televise six to 12 days before the game is played.
