Survey team confirms Omaha tornado

A tornado struck Omaha early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
A weather service survey team Sunday confirmed a tornado touched down near 156th and Giles streets and traveled northeast. Its track was a quarter mile wide and continuous to at least 137th and Z streets.
The team found the tornado created EF1 damage (wind speeds of 86-110 mph) from 156th and Giles streets to 137th and Z streets. It created EF2 damage (wind speeds of 111-135 mph) near 137th and Z streets.

At 2:27 a.m., the tornado tore the roof from a Wal-Mart in Omaha, the weather service reported. It then struck a home near 136th and Y streets in Omaha, trapping people inside. At 2:29 a.m., the tornado damaged trees and homes in Millard.
No injuries were reported as a result of the storm. Other damage included a large tree limb down at 120th and Blondo streets in Omaha.
Thunderstorms also caused flooding and dropped hail in central and northeast Nebraska Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the National Weather Service reported. Hail nearly an inch in diameter fell near Petersburg and Albion in Boone County.
Hail measured at 1.75 inches was reported in Seward.
In Norfolk, three inches of rain fell overnight, and just west in Battle Creek, Nebraska Highway 121 was closed along with many county roads because of flash flooding.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms with a 50 percent chance of rain were expected Sunday in Lincoln. The high on Sunday was expected to reach 79. Monday called for partly cloudy skies with a high near 81 and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, accoring to the National Weather Service.
