Police: Daughter exploited 72-year-old mother
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Police say a 51-year-old Lincoln woman financially exploited her 72-year-old mother, who is in an assisted living center.
Dorthea Hooks, 1237 N. 26th St., was booked into jail on suspicion of felony theft by deception just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. She was out of jail that day by 11 a.m.
Officer Katie Flood alleges Hooks, her mother’s guardian, spent $1,832.12 of her mother’s money for cash, an electric bill, at Graham Tire and on a trip to Chicago, among other things.
According to court records, it allegedly started when Hooks was court appointed to be her mother’s guardian in March 2007.
Adult Protective Services referred the case to investigators.
