OMAHA — A 29-year-old Omaha man convicted of raping his 83-year-old neighbor has been sentenced to up to 61 years in prison.

Jayson Williams will not be eligible for parole until at least 2038. He was convicted on a number of charges, including first-degree sexual assault.

Police say Williams broke into his elderly neighbor’s home the night of Dec. 30, 2005, beat the woman, pushed her down a flight of stairs and raped her.

Williams was already a convicted sex offender who had served time in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2001.

" This typifies the truth that rape is often not a crime of sex so much as a crime of hatred and violence toward women. "

" Hmmmmmmmm, I'm not the best at arithmatic, but even I can see that 2005-2001 is only four years, so gosh, maybe they should have kept in jail LONGER the first time?????? "

" I wonder if he learned his lesson by serving time for his first crime. I bet they though he was "rehabilitated." "

" NE does not rehabilitate it's inmates, it coddles them! "

" Maybe if they took away things like cable and free health care from inmates-things the majority of the non-criminal population don't even have, prison would be more of a punishment like what it was meant to be. Come on guys, lets make it so that people are actaully PUNISHED for crimes, and let's require them to actually serve a fair sentence. Prison should be about punishment, not about phsyco babble rehabilitation. "
