An alert driver helped state troopers recover a generator taken from a pickup parked at a rest area Friday morning.

The driver called Nebraska State Patrol dispatchers around 9:30 a.m. after allegedly seeing a semi driver load the 250-pound generator into his truck while the owners of the pickup were inside the Milford Rest Area on Interstate 80 in Seward County, patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said.

The driver gave troopers a detailed description of the semi and its license plate number, and a trooper stopped a semi matching the description, Collins said.

The generator which is used to operate power outlets, was recovered, and the semi driver, Dennis Mack, 46, of Macomb, Mich., was arrested and jailed on suspicion of theft, Collins said.
