Huskers fall at Missouri
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Aaron Crow held Nebraska hitless over his 6 2/3 innings, and Missouri broke open a tie game with a seven-run outburst in the eighth to beat the Huskers 8-1 at Taylor Stadium on Friday night.
Fifth-ranked NU still remained in the hunt for a Big 12 Conference championship, as leader Texas A&M lost to Texas. But Nebraska’s only chance for the title now is to win the final two games here and have the Aggies drop their final two against the Longhorns.
The Huskers took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning on Jake Mort’s first-inning homer off the All-America candidate Crow, who improved his record to 12-0. It was the first homer of the junior’s career.
Missouri finally dented Johnny Dorn in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs on two singles and a hit batter. NU then called on Dan Jennings, who gave up a game-tying infield single to Ryan Lollis before escaping when Kyle Mach was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second. That left the right-handed senior Dorn, who’s won 36 games in his career, with his fourth straight no-decision.
NU’s relievers would soon fare worse.
Jennings gave up two singles and a walk to start the eighth before Jonah Schmidt delivered a sacrifice fly off Mike Nesseth to put the Tigers up 2-1. Steve Gray then lined Nesseth’s next delivery to the gap in left-center field for a two-run double. Zach Herr later hit a batter with the bases loaded and then give up a three-run double to Aaron Senne.
The teams continue their series with a game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
