2 Lincoln firefighters win state awards
The Nebraska Veterans of Foreign Wars has named two Lincoln men winners of statewide firefighting awards.
David Backhus, a fire apparatus operator at Station 9, has been named the state Firefighter of the Year. He’s worked for the Lincoln Fire Department since 1990.
Craig Clark, a fire captain, has been named state EMT of the Year. Clark started in 1995 as a fire trainee and became a paramedic in 1996.
The two will be honored June 20 at the VFW state convention in Kearney.
They were nominated by Lincoln Post 4626, according to VFW member John Lemke. They won the District 9 contest before their names were submitted for the state awards.
