FORT WORTH, Texas — The Lincoln Saltdogs got their first win of the season from a starting pitcher as Brian Campbell bounced back from a shaky first to throw 6 1/3 strong innings to lead the club to a 6-5 victory over the Fort Worth Cats in the final game of their season-opening road trip.

The Dogs got the bats going early, thanks to a Luis Perez’s two-run, two-out single, followed by a Ben Tinius RBI base hit.

After allowing three runs in his first two frames of work, Campbell threw 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball to earn the win.

Second baseman Eduardo Rios went 3-for-4 with two runs, including a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth.

The Cats threatened several times late in the game. Lincoln reliever Johnny Thompson struck out Cats right fielder Charles Carter with two men in scoring position in the seventh.

Lincoln closer Nate Staggs allowed a two-run home run to Cats first baseman John Allen in the ninth, but buckled down to retire three of the next four batters to pick up his first  save.

Saltdogs third baseman Ben Tinius went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and shortstop Anthony Contreras remained hot with another two hits of his own.

The Dogs (2-5) head back to Haymarket Park for their home opener Friday against Pensacola.

" Hopefully a little home cooking can get things righted after a rough start. It will be good to get out to the park again and see a few wins, maybe! "
