Police arrested a transient suspected of stabbing a man 10 times early Sunday.

The 55-year-old victim was severely injured, according to a Lincoln Police report, but his wounds were not considered life-threatening, said police Capt. David Beggs.

Francis C. Mesteth, a 31-year-old transient, was arrested at 3:50 a.m., about a half hour after police found the victim on the floor of an apartment at 17th and Washington streets.

Officers also found a knife with a curved blade in the apartment, Beggs said.

Mesteth was cited on suspicion of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and remained there Sunday afternoon.

The condition of the victim, who was taken to BryanLGH Medical Center West, was not released.
