Lauritzen Gardens’ festival next weekend

Lauritzen Gardens’ Spring into Spring festival and plant sale will be held Saturday and Sunday from

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It will feature a performance by The Living Garden, in which garden characters “come alive” in the Omaha’s botanical center’s floral display hall.

The performers will interact as they turn into animated garden features. The cast includes The Fountain, a beautiful woman made of stone who comes to life by gracefully spraying water from her fingertips and headpiece; The Rock, who transforms between rock and man as he camouflages completely into his habitat; and Vine-to-Vine, two creatures on stilts who stretch and entwine their surroundings.

Full ensemble performances titled “Force of Nature” are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.,

1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. Tickets are $2.

The festival also will include a plant sale as well as displays, sales and information from more than a dozen area garden clubs and various plant societies.

The annual event is the only time a wide variety of plants are for sale at Lauritzen Gardens.

The day also will include a first look at the temporary interactive summer exhibit, KidStructure, which opens on Saturday. KidStructure features 13 structures that will expand the imagination and entertain guests of all ages. KidStructure is located near the children’s garden, just beyond the rose garden.

Live music will be provided by the Camille DeVore Trio from

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children’s hands-on activities and guided garden walking tours are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Admission to Lauritzen Gardens is $7 for adults, $3 for children age 6 to 12, and free for members and children under 6 years old. Lauritzen Gardens is located at First and Bancroft streets. For more information, visit www.lauritzengardens.org or call (402) 346-4002.
