SCOTTSBLUFF — Scottsbluff police have cited a high school student for bringing a semiautomatic gun to school.

Scottsbluff High School officials have said two students found the unloaded gun in a boys’ bathroom on April 28. There was no note with it, and there was no known threats against any students.

The identity of the accused student and the circumstances surrounding the have not been released.

Principal Galen Nighswonger would not say whether the student has been suspended, but indicated the district followed state and federal law. Those laws call for a one-year expulsion.
