Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office spent several hours Wednesday morning cleaning chicken, vegetables and egg rolls off the road north of Union after a refrigerated truck flipped onto its side, spilling the food it was carrying.

Oscar Cervantes-Preciado, 34, of Kansas City, Mo., was northbound on U.S. 75 around 5:55 a.m. when he swerved to miss a deer, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 2008 Kenworth refrigerator straight truck went onto the shoulder and flipped, spilling meat, vegetables and condiments destined for a Chinese restaurant in Bellevue.

A health department inspector condemned the load of food, and the truck was reloaded and sent back to Kansas City, said Lt. Larry Burke. It took until 9:30 a.m. to clean up the mess, he said.

First, the mercury spill at the S.O.B. Then, the formaldehyde spill at Lincoln High, and NOW, a Chinese food spill by Union! Hey, now that last one is a spill I can support! Next time, spill some by my refrigerator! lol! "

" Amen, Bob! I was taught that it is better to hit the deer than swerve to avoid it. Sure, this can also cause problems, but swerving tends to cause more. The driver needs to remember he is much bigger than the deer! "
