Fire destroys garage
A detached garage was destroyed in a fire Thursday night.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue was called to the blaze at 1021 N. 51st St. at 10:11 p.m., said Deputy Chief Derald Murrell.
When firefighters arrived, the garage was engulfed in flames, Murrell said. Several power lines near the garage burned through and started popping, and Lincoln Electric System shut down power to the house, Murrell said.
The garage was a total loss, Murrell said. Two vehicles, a motorcycle, tools and other items in the garage were destroyed, for an estimated loss of $70,000. The building loss was estimated at $25,000.
Officials were still investigating the cause Friday morning, Murrell said.
