Residents are encouraged to give their opinions on the city budget by attending the city’s final town hall meeting Tuesday.

“Priority Lincoln” is an effort to solicit public opinion on how the city should spend tax dollars. The effort began in March with a phone survey of 600 residents.

“The answers to our budget challenges aren’t at city hall, they’re in the hearts and minds of the people we serve,” said mayoral aide Rick Hoppe.

The city has partnered with Leadership Lincoln on a series of town hall meetings to allow residents another venue to express opinions about budget priorities.

The last meeting will be Tuesday at Lincoln High School, 2229 J St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting will be from 6-8 p.m.

The city has borrowed an audience response technology system from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to allow for instant feedback from those attending the town hall meetings.

The city is working with the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and the UNL Bureau of Sociological Research on the project.

Here’s the budget schedule:

June: The mayor’s budget will be released to the public.

July: The City Council will vote on tentative changes.

Aug. 11: A public hearing is scheduled.

Aug. 25: The City Council is scheduled to adopt the budget.

" Let's start by getting rid of mayoral aides. Exactly how many are there? That would help out a lot. Then we could ask for a refund from the guy that was suppose to lobby to keep the state fair in Lincoln. Then we could send a bill to the 2015 vision group. You know, the idiots that sent millions out of Lincoln. Why hasn't the journal done an article on this? The impact to the city has to be tremendous!! "

" Please do not cut the vital services of the LIFE Office. We will need their compasion and assistance more and more as our generation ages. If anything, their budget should be increased to meet the growing demand. "
