The U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Thursday endorsed Mike Johanns for election to the Senate.

“As secretary of agriculture and as governor of Nebraska, Mike Johanns has been a forceful advocate for policies that promote economic prosperity and job growth,” said Bill Miller, Chamber senior vice president and political director.

“He has earned the Chamber’s endorsement because we believe he will fight for businesses of every size on important issues like tax relief, trade, health care and regulatory reform.”

" Johanns has the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce -- the type of anti-tax, anti-regulation folks who brought us poisoned pet food, the mortgage meltdown, job loss, declining wages, high gas prices, etc. That's all I need to know to confirm my decision to vote to send a Democrat to Washigton. I'm going to be looking out for my own interests; business ruled the Bush administration and look what happened. I'm not better off than I was eight years ago. "

" Actually, the mortgage "crisis" was brought to us by those that howled about banks denying credit to bad credit risks, because bad credit risks are weighted with racial minorities. Bad risks used to be denied credit (and rightly so), but the howlers got the lending rules r4elaxed and so we have the current problem. "

" He NEVER finishes a job. Mike will NOT be getting my vote. Scott Kleeb for Senate! "

" I'm really confused here: Why is this "endorsement" worth publicizing? What exactly is the "U.S. Chamber of Commerce" and what is its relevance to our lives here in Lincoln? Johanns is a great big Quitter and always will be. "He will fight for businesses of every size"? How does that affect my health insurance or get my family members out of Iraq? Please, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, answer me that. This bozo is running for the Senate (for God's sake), not for mayor. "

" I'm not better off than I was 8 years ago, not by a long shot. Didn't like Johanns when he was mayor or governor. I'm sure that the sheeple of Nebraska will vote him in by a landslide. I'm not voting for him and I'm a Republican. "

" I'm trying to remember. When Johanns left his next to the last job, was Nebraska rated 48th or 49th in Rural Economic Developement? Big business, big favors. Someone my correct me, and I'm sure they will, but under the Bush/Johanns farm bill, wasn't rual economic developement pretty much gutted? "

" this endorsement clinches it for me. I refuse to vote for a candidate that has been bought by big business. Johanns aside from being a quitter has been excellent at making himself available to whoever he feels can get him closer to the next job he's going to quit. Anyone remember the disaster that was Ron Ross? Or how about the embezzler that Johanns put in charge of a multi-million dollar budget while the guy was still on work release and guess what...the guy stole again. That's common sense that just can't be taught.

" Total surprise. Never would have seen this one coming. What's next? Nebraska Right to Life? LIBA? NRA? How about BAELFAP (Born Again Evangelicals Looking For A Puppet)? Anyone else want to guess what the next surprise endorsement might be? "
