OMAHA — Bail has been set at $1 million for a baby sitter accused of critically injuring a 3-month-old baby.

Police arrested 25-year-old Mona Walker on Thursday on suspicion of felony child abuse. The baby was taken in critical condition to an Omaha hospital for treatment of her head injuries, including a fractured skull.

Walker first told officers she tripped over an ottoman while carrying the baby, causing the injuries. But police say Walker later admitted punching the baby twice in the face and swinging the infant into a door.

Creighton University Medical Center released a statement Friday evening that said the baby suffered severe head injuries and was in critical care.
