By KEN HAMBLETON / Lincoln Journal Star
Fresh off a series against Oklahoma in which it got two wins and a tie, the Nebraska baseball team plays host to familiar foe Northern Colorado Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
The Huskers will play the Bears on Wednesday at 1:35 p.m., to conclude a 16-game homestand.
Nebraska jumped seven spots poll and up three spots to No. 19 in Baseball America after rallying to beat OU on Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s game was called after 10 innings with the score tied at 8 because the Sooners had to leave to catch a flight out of Kansas City, Mo. Oddly, that flight was delayed.
The Huskers took four games from Northern Colorado two weeks ago. Since then, the Bears (7-15) have lost two games at Creighton, beaten then-No. 1 and previously unbeaten Arizona State, and won two of their last three games. Northern Colorado split with ranked Texas A&M earlier in the season.
Nebraska will start Dan Jennings today against Northern Colorado’s John Klausing, a former Husker. Eric Bird will start for NU on Wednesday.
The Huskers travel to Austin, Texas, to face the Longhorns in a three-game series that starts Friday at 3 p.m.. The series opener was originally set for later, but the game time was changed because Texas plays Stanford at 6:35 p.m. Friday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at Houston.
Northern Colorado will wrap up a 24-game road trip and play its home opener Friday against South Dakota State.
In other NU baseball news, Husker designated hitter Nick Sullivan was named the Big 12 player of the week. He hit .444 (8-for-18), with a home run and 9 RBIs, and scored four runs in last week’s five games.
