MANHATTAN, Kan. — Dan Johnston lined a 1-2 pitch off preseason All-American closer Daniel Edwards for a two-run, two-out single in the top of the 10th inning to give the Nebraska baseball team a 5-3 victory that finished off a three-game sweep of Kansas State Sunday.

NU extended its winning streak to 13 — matching the longest during sixth-year coach Mike Anderson’s tenure — and improved to 14-2.

The Huskers, down 3-2 entering the ninth inning and about to face Edwards, sent the game to extra innings on freshman David Stewart’s leadoff double, and one-out sacrifice fly by DJ Belfonte.

After redshirt freshman Mike Nesseth pitched around back-to-back singles with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Jake Opitz started the Nebraska 10th with a single to center. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mitch Abeita. After Bryce Nimmo drew a walk, Edwards got Tyler Rank on a fly out to center. But Johnston, after taking an 0-2 pitch that was out of the strike zone and also had Nimmo advancing to second with no throw, then came up with the game-winning hit.

Nebraska returns to action on Tuesday and Wednesday, when it plays host to Arkansas.
