Teens attending last Saturday’s Dare2Share Christian youth conference in Lincoln collected 23 tons of food for the People’s City Mission.

That door-to-door effort brought in the most food of any of this year’s Dare2Share events in cities across the country, according to Jen McCullough at the organization’s headquarters in Arvada, Colo.

The conference featured music, Christian testimonies and motivational activities, including the Saturday afternoon food drive and witnessing in Lincoln neighborhoods. More than 6,600 teens attended the event at the Pershing Center.

The collection by Dare2Share is the mission’s major food drive of the year, said Rick Ragsdale, director of the mission’s distribution center. The food will be used at the mission’s 24-hour shelter and distributed to 20,000 low-income and working poor residents.

“It’s a huge amount,” he said.  “This means a lot because there’s an endless need for food.”
