Thief steals 45 boxes of Girl Scout cookies
Nearly $160 worth of Girl Scout Cookies disappeared from a 29-year-old’s car late Friday.
Police say the woman stopped to visit friends in the 1000 block of North 48th Street at 11 p.m. When she returned to her car about an hour later, 45 boxes of Peanut Butter Patties, Carmel deLites, Thin Mints, Shortbread cookies and Cinna-Spins that had been inside were gone, Office Katie Flood said. The car was left locked, but the cookie thief was able to get into the car through a partly opened window.
Police have no suspects, but may be wise to be on the lookout for a trail of cookie crumbs.
Witness describes robber’s getaway car
A witness says she saw the robber run out of Hy-Vee, 6919 O St., Saturday morning to a 1990s Chevy Cavalier or Pontiac Sunfire waiting on the south side of the store.
Officer Katie Flood said the woman was driving by on 70th Street when she saw him get in the passenger side of the car. She described the man as Caucasian, about 6-feet-tall, 180 pounds and in his late teens or early 20s.
Inside the store at about 9:30 a.m., a customer service clerk was working behind the desk when a man wearing a black coat and black sunglasses approached the counter and demanded $500, police say.
The clerk told the man she did not have that much money in the register; the man then said he had a gun, although no weapon was shown.
The clerk started to cry, and another employee noticed and went over to the desk to offer help.
The man quickly left the store without taking any money.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 475-3600.
