On Feb. 20, Topp’s Mechanical Inc. near Tecumseh reported 5,000 to 7,500 pounds of copper wire stolen from their plant, as well as several small-caliber weapons, a plasma cutter and other tools.

An investigation led by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office and Tecumseh Police Department, revealed a group of four men and a juvenile allegedly were responsible for the theft.

Winters is the first to be arrested.

Johnson County Sheriff Jim Wenzl said two others have been questioned, including the juvenile. He expects the Johnson County Attorney to file charges.

He said two others remain at large, but arrest warrants are expected to be issued this week.

According to the press release, Winters’ arrest also involved at three other burglaries reported in Johnson County. The burglaries involved stealing gas and diesel fuel from rural farm buildings.
